When Should You Book a Newborn Photographer in Dublin? | Linda Clarke Photography

Looking for a newborn photographer in Dublin? Here’s exactly when to book and what to expect.

Welcoming a new baby is such an exciting time, and there are so many things to prepare for. One thing many parents don’t realise until later is that newborn photography is best booked before your baby arrives.

If you’re currently expecting and looking for a newborn photographer in Dublin, here’s a simple guide to help you understand when to book and what to expect.

The best time to book your newborn photography session is after your 20-week scan.

At this stage, we pencil in your due date and reserve space around it in the diary. Because I only take a limited number of newborn sessions each month, booking early ensures availability and allows every session to remain calm and unhurried.

Many parents are surprised that newborn sessions book up in advance, but this approach allows flexibility depending on when your baby actually arrives.

When does the newborn session take place?

Newborn photography sessions are usually held when your baby is between 10–21 days old.

During this stage, babies tend to be:

  • Sleepier
  • More settled
  • Naturally curled

This helps create those soft, peaceful images many parents love.

However, every baby is different — and sessions are always adapted to your baby’s needs.

What if my baby arrives early or late?

This is one of the most common worries, and the good news is — you don’t need to stress about it.

When you book your newborn session, I don’t fix a specific date straight away. Instead, I hold space around your due date.

Once your baby arrives, we simply confirm a session date that works for you and your baby.

What if my baby is already here?

It’s never too late to book a newborn photography session.

While very early sessions often result in sleepy, curled images, older newborns can give something equally special — more eye contact, little expressions, and personality.

My baby-led approach means I follow your baby’s lead, no matter their age, ensuring a calm and relaxed experience.

Why booking early makes such a difference

Booking in advance allows:

  • A guaranteed space in the diary
  • A calm, flexible approach around your due date
  • A relaxed session without pressure
  • Time to prepare for your experience

Most importantly, it ensures your baby is photographed during those early weeks, which pass so quickly.

A calm, baby-led experience

Every newborn photography session in my Dublin studio is completely baby-led.

There is plenty of time for:

  • Feeding
  • Settling
  • Cuddles
  • Breaks when needed

Nothing is rushed, and your baby’s comfort always comes first.
